3 Indians in world's longest women's rope team
Hyderabad: Three Indian women sports enthusiasts - Aanchal Thakur, Shibani Gharat and Charmi Dedhia - were part of a global team of 82 climbers, who created a world record by forming The World's Longest Women's Rope Team, scaled the 4,164-m high Breithorn peak located in Swiss Alps of Switzerland, on Friday, June 17, 2022.
These women of influence from around 25 countries took part and accomplished this record making adventure sport event organised by Switzerland Tourism (ST) to add a new female chapter to the history of what is still an overwhelmingly male-dominated sport, this event was first of its kind and organised as part of the special initiative '100 per cent women campaign' started by Swiss tourism in the year 2021.
The participants were happy and thankful to Switzerland for promoting this 100 per cent women initiative, they are hoping this will inspire many other women, both now and in the future to get out of their comfort zone and explore the great outdoors.
In order to assemble this diverse women's rope team, 10 out of the 82 spots, were kept open to all. Any woman from across the world with the required basic level of fitness for the ascent could apply online in advance for one of ten places.
To make this campaign a success, ST has joined forces with partners ��� the Swiss Mountain Guides Association, Saas-Fee/ Saas Valley Tourism, outdoor equipment supplier Mammut and the Grand-Hotel & Spa Walliserhof to facilitate this unique challenge in the beautiful Swiss Alps.
