As the onion prices dip, Chilli rate surges on fear of shortfall

The price of onion, which has plagued people all over the country, is now falling. In some places, the price of quality onion is very good. People are getting some leeway. However, before the onion goes down, another crop is ready to squeeze your sweat. This time with Mirchi. The rate of Mirchi in Telangana has reached as high as Rs 14,000 per quintal. Usually the Mirchi quintal costs from Rs 6500 to Rs 7,000. However, wholesale traders say the price per quintal has increased to Rs 14,000.

The wholesale markets in Hyderabad, such as Malakpet, Osmangunj and Boyanapalli, are generally over-harvested in January. Some traders estimate that the price of Mirchi is high because of the shortage of growth of artificial Mirchi.

However, this time, Mirchi farmers are getting better rates than ever before. Farmers are also moving to the commodity markets with Mirchi costing Rs 13,000 to Rs 14,000 per quantal.
