Distribution of food grains to migrants under the Atma Nirbhir Bharat package has started in several states across the country. The Government had on Thursday said that around eight crore migrants who do not have ration card either from the Centre or State government will get five kilograms per person of wheat or rice and one kilogram of chana per family, free of cost, for the next two months. The announcement was made while announcing the second tranche of relief measures for migrants, street vendors, farmers and middle-income group citizens

Delivery of food grains under Atma Nirbhar Bharat Abhiyan scheme has already started by Food Corporation of India. 1109 Metric Tonnes (MT) rice was issued from Tamil Nadu and 151 MT from Kerala to the State Governments for further distribution to the eligible migrant labour.

Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution has said that every arrangement has been made to deliver food grains under this scheme across the country.

Sufficient stocks have been positioned in every State and Union Territory for meeting the requirements in any part of the country. Stocks have been positioned in 2122 warehouses spread across the length and breadth of the country, including islands of Andaman and Lakshadweep.

Foodgrain stocks are also being regularly replenished through movement from producing areas by rail, road and sea routes. The relief measure costing Rs 3,500 crore with an allocation of around 8 lakh Metric Tonnes of food grains will be funded by the Central Government.
