Dumont plans ice cream plant in Telangana State

Hyderabad: Premium ice cream brand Dumont on Thursday announced its plans to set up ice cream manufacturing facility near Hyderabad with an investment of Rs 15 crore.

The facility which will come up within a year will have a capacity of 2,500-3,000 litres per hour.

The brand, which is being launched with 10 stores in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Vijayawada on Friday, has drawn up plans to open 200 stores in three years with presence in all southern states and parts of Maharashtra. First 100 outlets will come up over the next one year.

"Our differentiating factor is 34 new ice cream flavours that are not available in the market in India. Some are highly creative while some others are classic.

We have spent over Rs 3 crore on R&D for creating unique flavours," Vivek Inampudi, Managing Director, Dumont, told the media here.

Some of our unique flavours include Blueberry Cheesecake, Choco Orange, Thai Tea and Kheer, he added.

Vivek said his company, Vint Foods and Beverages, had 20 years of experience in manufacturing frozen desserts and ice creams but supplied in bulk to caterers and others under three brand names – Dairy Treat, Dairy Fudge and Dairy Nuts.

It has a manufacturing facility near Vijayawada with an hourly capacity of 1,900 litres. The new plant in Telangana is the second one through which it supplies its products to Karnataka and TS markets.

"With the launch of Dumont, we are foraying into Rs 6,000-crore branded ice cream segment. We are confident that we will be successful given the distinctive flavours we offer to customers," he explained.

In the first year of operations, the company is aiming at Rs 12-15 crore revenues. Each store is expected to generate revenues of Rs 60 lakh by selling ice creams and milkshakes.

Vivek said the company sources fresh milk from dairy farms in the countryside. "The choice and selection of ingredients is our specialty.

We source fruits from authentic sources. We also import a few ingredients from renowned sources in order to achieve the finest taste in the end-product," he maintained.

Dumont has a well-organised logistics system with 25 cold storage vehicles to transport its products to markets across various cities in Telangana, AP and Karnataka.
