IRCTC Introduces OTP-Based Refund System For Ticket Cancellation
The Indian Railways has started a passenger-friendly refund system to make your rail travel more transparent and hassle-free. The Railways has launched an OTP (One time Password) based refund system for reserved e-tickets which are cancelled. For fully wait-listed dropped tickets also the same refund system is applicable.
As per a press release, the new refund system has already been implemented by Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC). You can avail this OTP-based refund system only if you book your tickets through IRCTC authorised agents.
How does it work?
When a passenger books a railway ticket through authorised IRCTC agent, the passenger needs to provide their mobile numbers. At the time of cancellation, the passenger will get an OTP on their registered mobile number. Passengers will also receive a message stating the refund amount. After that to receive the refund passenger needs to share the OTP with the agent who booked the ticket. The same procedure has to be followed for the fully wait-listed dropped ticket, said Indian Railways.
Passengers should provide the mobile number of at least one of the passengers to the IRCTC agent while booking tickets in bulk. It is the passenger's responsibility to ensure that the IRCTC agent records the correct mobile number while booking the e-tickets.
This refund system will guarantee more transparency in the refund system. The IRCTC claims the main idea is to streamline the cancellation process along with a timely refund.
IRCTC in a press release said, "It is a user-friendly facility wherein passenger will come to know about the exact refund amount received by agent on his behalf against cancelled ticket or fully wait-listed dropped ticket."
