ITR Filings 2019: CBDT Extends Deadline to October 31
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the deadline of filing returns of income tax till October 31. The Board has given this extension second time. The first deadline of June 30 was extended up to September 30. This extension will bring some relief to smaller companies as well who are struggling with GST filings.
There was a lot of debate over the last two days on whether the deadline will be extended or not by the income tax department.
An official said that there was a change in the ITR 6 software. Since all tax-filing is now software-driven, the CBDT will need some time to rework the filing process due to the changes in the software.
"On consideration of representations recd (received) from across the country, decided to extend the due date for filing of ITRs & Tax Audit Reports from 30th Sep 2019 to 31st of Oct, 2019 in respect of persons whose accounts are required to be audited," the CBDT said in a tweet. It said a formal notification for the same would be issued soon.

This category of ITR needs to be filed by the entities that are assessed under section 44AB of the I-T Act such as partnership firms, companies, proprietorship, and the accounts which need to be audited before filing. Individuals like a working partner in a firm also included under this clause. The CBDT frames a policy for the I-T department.
