The entrepreneur recently put up a video, a recording of one of his many online mentorship sessions, which is a part of their programs in mentoring and training individuals to start their own business development consultancy. Through this and many other youtube videos prior, the duo has tried to explain the various skill sets that a business developer needs, emphasising on a number of topics such as leadership skills, time and money management, project management, communication abilities and much more.
Here are some skills that a business developer needs as explained by the CEO himself,
1)Communication skills
Basic to any business developer, communication skills rank high. Only if you're able to communicate with your client at their level, satisfactory results will be seen.
2)Negotiation and persuasion skills
Clients are notorious for being hard to convince, a regular 'complain' you would hear from people dealing with 'clients'. Here, patience is a virtue and the only way to come to a win-win situation is with good negotiation tactics and covert Persuasion.
3)Project management
When a business developer receives work from a client it becomes a 'project'. Just like in any area of work, a project has a process, which must be followed or will not have desired results.
4)Research and strategy
A business developer is more or less a strategist, they help companies grow by building strategies to help compete with their competitors and survive in a marketing. Strategy building itself a creative process but only through thorough research will one be able to make good strategies.
5)Business Intelligence
One must invest time in understanding the basic process of running a business and the workings of the many, many industries with the business realm to be able to provide advice in business development.
6)Marketing skills
In this time and age, where there are multiple options to a single product or service, clever marketing is what makes one product better than the other.
7)Time and money management
A necessary skill for any individual, it's no surprise that this skill is important to a business developer as well, keeping in mind that a business developer will be shouldering a company's future. One faulty move can make or break a company.
'Businesses development is a vague concept to people now, they don't understand it too well yet', says the CEO, who aims to change this with his agency and help people understand the true potential of business development. Business development is the need of the hour, with businesses starting out practically in every corner it is possible, especially by an amateur who does not understand the process too well.
