Navayuga Container Terminal crosses 5L TEU milestone
Hyderabad: Navayuga Container Terminal (NCT) on March 27, 2019, handled 500,000 twenty-foot equivalent units(TEUs) for the first time in FY2018-19.
The half-millionth TEU was handled on vessel MVSSL Kutch.NCT witnessed 9-fold volume growth in the 5-year period starting from a modest 58,577 TEUs in FY 2013-14.
Commenting on the development, Anil Yendluri, Director & CEO, Krishnapatnam Port Co. Ltd. said, "NCT has taken giant strides in getting established as a transshipment hub on the East Coast of India and we are working towards making it the hub port in the Bay of Bengal."
Jithendra Nimmagadda, COO, NCT commented "Reaching this milestone would not have been possible without the strong partnerships forged with shipping lines wherein by working together we assure the speed, transparency, and fluidity our shippers have come to expect from NCT."
He further added, "We are further expanding our terminal capacity from 1.2 million TEUs to 2 million TEUs by the end of 2019 to be ahead of the demand."
FY 2018-19 marked several developments at NCT including commissioning of 5 new e-RTGs, increase in yard capacity to 5,000 ground slots, increase in Reefer points (200 numbers), development of 30 acres of off-dock Stuffing & de-stuffing zone close to the container terminal, installation of a sophisticated drive through container scanner and permission to handle unshredded scrap imports.
