Rajat Gupta at ISB : Would love to teach here again!

Hyderabad: "Given an opportunity by the Dean, I would definitely like to come back and teach a lesson or two at the Indian School of Business (ISB)," said Rajat Gupta, while launching his book 'Mind Without Fear' at the ISB on Wednesday here.

One of the driving forces behind setting up of the ISB in Hyderabad, the India-born former Goldman Sachs director shared his thoughts, his experiences and spoke about his mistakes during a conversation with Founding Dean of ISB, Pramath Raj Sinha and while answering questions from students.

Gupta was sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty in 2012 of passing confidential boardroom information about Goldman Sachs to then hedge fund founder Raj Rajaratnam, a Sri-Lankan origin who is currently serving 11 years in jail for insider trading.

During the course of the launch, Rajat Gupta claimed innocence quoting himself to be a 'ridiculously busy, overstretched man'.

The former McKinsey chief was the most prominent of the 25 individuals – 21 of whom pleaded guilty – convicted of being part of Rajaratnam's network of informants.

70-year-old Gupta, however, always maintained his innocence, and still did at ISB.

Offering advice to young management professionals at ISB, an institution Gupta felt, far exceeded the expectations for which it was established, he said: "Take up new challenges.

When you get too comfortable doing anything and if you are too much in your comfort zone, change it dramatically.

Get out of your comfort zone, because once you get too comfortable, you get into a rut and are not creative, innovative anymore."
