Telangana to encourage green buildings: Minister

Hyderabad: Telangana is making a determined effort in transforming the State into a holistically sustainable one, said a minister.

Addressing delegates at the closing day of 17th Green Building Congress 2019, Vemula Prashanth Reddy, minister for roads & buildings, legislative affairs and housing, Telangana, underlined that the State is making a determined effort in transforming itself into a holistically sustainable one.

The minister invited Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) to partner with the Government in its green and sustainable initiatives.

The Telangana Government has taken up construction of 2.8 lakh housing in the State, under the Double Bedroom Housing Scheme. We will consider adopting Green measures, the minister said.

Somesh Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, Revenue, Registration, Stamps & Excise, and Chairperson, TSRERA, underlined that green buildings are the need of the hour.

He said that based on his personal experience, green buildings being costlier is a myth. He called for creating more awareness on green building concepts.

He also said that the Haritha Haram initiative, has now been made institutionalised, and the Government has mandated Municipalities and Gram Panchayats to allocate 10 per cent of their Budget for promoting Haritha Haram campaign.

V Suresh, Chairman, IGBC said that IGBC is looking forward to work more closely with the Telangana Government in further accelerating the green building movement in the State.
