TS will get 3 lakh jobs in electronics manufacturing: KTR

Hyderabad: Telangana IT and Industries Minister KT Rama Rao on Monday said Telangana would get three lakh new jobs in electronics manufacturing sector in next four years.

Speaking after inaugurating three-lakh sft design and engineering centre of Intel Corp, a US-based chipmaker, here, he said, "Hyderabad already has a strong base in software sector.

Hence, the focus now will shift towards electronics manufacturing, which is a vital sector. The State has received Rs 5,000 crore investment, in the last five years in this sector.

These investments created more than 30,000 jobs in the electronics manufacturing sector in the city. We are expecting the sector to create three lakh direct jobs in this industry in the next four years".

On the Intel's new facility, he said: "Intel is a technology leader and its contributions towards growing the ecosystem in India and Telangana have been remarkable.

The new facility in Hyderabad reinforces Intel's commitment towards accelerating the tech journey of the State".

The Hyderabad facility is the company's second innovation centre in India after Bengaluru. It has a seating capacity of 1,500.

Currently, 400 employees will be working from this Centre, but we will increase the employee count to 1,500 by end of 2020, Raja Koduri, Senior Vice-President, Chief Architect and General Manager, Architecture (Graphics and Software), Intel Corp, told the media here.

The facility will also have an incubation centre for hardware startups called as Intel India Maker Lab. Intel India said in Hyderabad it has collaborated with IIT, IIIT-H and TASK (Telangana Academy for Skill and Knowledge) as local partners for onboarding qualified engineering talent with niche set of skills. The design centre will focus on graphics, hardware platforms and System on Chip (SoC).

Koduri further said the centre aims to work on Exascale Computing that will help handle large size of data and analyse data for wider applications.

"There is a need to analyse the data in real time. The amount of data we are generating is way higher than our ability to analyse it," he said.

An official said across India nearly 15-20 startups are selected for their plug-in programme. The selected startups will get the support of mentorship, physical space in the new facility along with Intel's laboratory equipment's and funding which is provided in partnership with government of India's Department of Science and Technology.

In this city, Intel India has already partnered with WeHub, a Telangana government, initiative to incubate startups led by women.
