Bhumi Shares Her Opinion On Gender Neutral Awards 'An Artiste Should Be Recognised For Their Work & Not For Gender'
Bollywood's ace actress Bhumi Pednekar is all in the best phase of her career… She is presently having a couple of prestigious movies in her hand. Off late, the Berlin Film Festival has awarded its first gender-neutral acting prize to Maren Eggert. According to this category, now both male and female actors will compete in the same category. Taking it as an inspiration even the Gotham Awards also combined the male and female best actor categories. Well, Bhumi Pednekar spoke on this issue and shared her opinion…
She started off by saying, "Over the course of last year, it was hugely encouraging to see award functions do away with gendered awards. Even from our context, if strong enough roles continue to be written for women and other genders, we can eventually reach a space where we have gender-neutral awards. An artiste should be known for the kind of work that one does and not seen from the lens of gender. I see each one of us as artists who can do their bit to achieve parity."
She also added, "We all know that we live in a non-binary world and I feel such steps will only promote inclusivity. It will be a welcoming step towards embracing all genders. It is high time that we break these walls and celebrate raw, real talent without the filter of the gender."
Well, Bhumi Pednekar was last seen in the Durgamati movie which is the remake of Anushka Shetty's Bhaagaimathie. Next, she is part of Rajkummar Rao's Badhaai Do and Akshay Kumar's Raksha Bandhan movies.
Raksha Bandhan movie is being directed by Anand L Rai and is produced by the filmmaker and Alka under the Zee Studios, Colour Yellow Productions and Cape of Good Films banners. This movie has Bhumi Pednekar, Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth in other important roles.
Coming to the plot of the movie, it showcases the love, bonding and attachment of a brother and sisters. Akshay Kumar will essay the role of brother and Sahejmeen Kaur, Deepika Khanna, Sadia Khateeb and Smrithi Srikanth will be seen as his sisters.
