Patriarchal Societies Are Across Globe, Not Just India Says Aahana Kumra
Rangbaaz and Lipstick Under My Burkha famed actress Aahana Kumra says that societies across the globe are patriarchal, not just India, on the sidelines of Yours Truly press junket.
Soni Razdan, Aahana Kumra along with Sanjoy Nag, hosted a press junket for the film, Yours Truly - a romantic drama that showcases the story of a woman in her late fifties and her journey of finding love in the most unexpected places.
Talking about Indian women curbing their desires post certain age, Aahana Kumra said, "Coming to desires, I don't think we should box India in terms of desire only. I have travelled to the films that spoke about desires, and I have travelled to various countries with it, and I was shocked as to how patriarchal societies are across the globe. We're not only dealing with these things in India, everybody is having their struggles across the globe"
"Every society has women trying to box them, in terms of not being able to express their desires. I am extremely thrilled that in India we're making films about women, older women who are trying to express their desires and wanting to have a desire. Just because you're married and have children, and are older, like in 40's and 50's, that doesn't mean you don't have any sexual desires left"
Further adding Aahana Kumra took dig at Bollywood trend of Older Man romancing younger girl but making a fuss when an older woman does the same.
She said, "It is very nice to show in Hindi films, an older man romancing some 20 year old girl, but the minute an older actress is paired opposite a younger guy, it becomes a topic of discussion. So I think at this point in time, the filmmakers are being very brave and they are speaking about desires of older women. I really think in popular awards, the older actresses are now finally being recognized, and it is so lovely to see them getting awards across the table"
Directed by National award-winning film maker Sanjoy Nag, Yours Truly features talented actor Soni Razdan (Mithi Kumar) in the lead role alongside Pankaj Tripathi (Vijay), Aahana Kumra (Lali Kumar) and Vinay Pathak. The film also features Mahesh Bhatt in a special, impactful appearance.
The film is based on Annie Zaidi's short story – 'The One That Was Announced', the heart warming story premiers on May 3, 2019 exclusively on ZEE5.
