Deepika was recently named the chairperson for the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image, (MAMI). When asked about why she chose to take the position she said, "I think in a way, we are responsible for shaping the way the film industry moves forward from here on, so that was a calculated move on my part as well as the board's. It is something that we spoke about. I read an article recently which said that 'I was appointed the chairperson because of my status or position'. Yes, that's precisely why we did that."

She went on to add one of the most prestigious film academies of India can benefit from her position at the board and it should. "Because I think Indian cinema is at the brink of beautiful global recognition. If it hasn't happened already, I think there is a lot more to happen and hopefully, we will just take it to an all new level,".

Deepika will turn producer with her upcoming film, 'Chhapaak' when asked about the film she said, "It's so ironic that on the day of Holi, I leave for Chhapaak, we start shooting on Monday. It is a very very important film, the story needs to be told, we start filming on Monday and on Holi day is when I leave for Delhi so no celebration, just a lot of preparation,"

Padukone made a stunning appearance at the red carpet wearing a red gown with her hair let down in a half-do and red lips.

Meghna Gulzar's directorial 'Chhapaak' is based on the real-life story of the acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. Besides Deepika, the film will also star Vikrant Massey.
