Dhanush's ' Raanjhanaa' turns 7!

As this project was announced by Aanand L Rai and filming commenced in September 2012, none could believe that a wiry, unconventional-looking Dhanush, who was a leading star in Tamil cinema could do justice to the role. With Swara Bhaskar playing a prominent role along with Sonam Kapoor, the female lead in the movie, 'Raanjhanaa' released on June 21, 2013 surprised everyone and turned out to be a hit at the box office. Made on an investment of around Rs 40 crore, it touched the Rs 100 crore mark as it wound up its exhibition all over.

Made with a small town ambience and a great performance by all actors selected, the film was carefully crafted with the leading stars attending acting workshops to get to the nuances of the characters they were to be essaying. Despite a low value star cast, the film managed a decent opening and turned out to be successful. Not unsurprisingly, the film faced troubles in Pakistan as it showed a Muslim woman falling in love with a Hindu boy, which was of course unacceptable to the Establishment there.
