That casting couch exists in the film industry is no news. However, the #metoo movement that started when several Hollywood actors called out Harvey Weinstein reignited the campaign against sexual harassment at workplaces.

Back home in South India, due credit must be given to Telugu anchor turned actress Sri Reddy for staging a protest against sexual abuse in the south cinema industry. Even though the entire Tollywood did not stand by her, a few actresses came out to support Sri Reddy's claims of casting couch in the industry after the latter called out a few big names.

The latest actress to open up about casting couch is Marathi actress Shruti Marathe. In a recent interview, she talked about how a director asked me to spend a night with him to land a role in his film. She goes on to say that she was not only shocked but also distressed. Not the one to lose hope, Shruti Marathe is said to have mustered up all her courage to hit back at her director. He is believed to have asked him if he had sought sexual favours from the movie's hero too. This statement caught the filmmaker off guard, she signs off.

Most actors who are now voicing their concerns over the casting couch in the movie industry are of the view that it is best for women to refuse when they encounter such situation and call them out for the benefit of others.
