Indigenous breed of Tamil Nadu cows to be sold via helpline
Coronavirus has impacted everything for sure. Cattle trade in Tamil Nadu, especially in the western part of the state which is famous for its Kangayam breed has faced the brunt too.
Traditionally, cattle sale takes place during village fairs or specific market days in the district of Tirupur. This has come to a grinding halt in the past few months owing to the Covid-19 scare and the aftereffects of the pandemic.
A local welfare outfit, Kongu Gosalai has stepped in to mitigate the misery of the traders by starting a centre for trading in this breed, unique to the region. A local Tamil daily reporting on the issue highlighted the characteristics of it by describing the cattle as good-looking, disease-resistant, low maintenance and high productivity at multiple levels.
Hence, the new welfare organization folks have extended a dedicated helpline to the traders to enable the business to chug along.
