Among the titans like MGR and Sivaji Ganesan, who were rising in popularity in the 1950s and 1960s, there was one C L Anandan (1933- 1989) who was an actor, producer and later a politician who aligned himself with AIADMK. He was involved in 60 films, out of which 25 featured him as a hero.

His action hero roles and swashbuckling image as a swordfighter retained his popularity for a long time in not just Tamil cinema but also in Malayalam. His film 'Vijayapuri Veeran' (1960) is still considered a great entertainer in Tamil cinema.

Modern-day film viewers would recognize him if he is given the identity of having been the father-in-law to two actors of Telugu cinema – the late Srihari, who married his dancing star daughter Disco Shanti and Prakash Raj who married the younger sister Lalitha Kumari. It's his 87th birth anniversary today.
