Tamil cinema resumes with muted activity
As expected, the post-production works of Tamil cinema commenced in Chennai on Monday. The satellite TV serials too began its activities alongside which had ground to a halt from March 19 when the coronavirus scare had got acute.
Responding to a clutch of petitions made by boththe feature film and satellite TV trade associations, the government had decided to restore some normalcy in the sector. Films of Vishal and Trisha have already started their post-production works, mainly re-recording and dubbing activities which are done in private spaces and do not have scope for too much social contact.
The issues pending a satisfactory resolution however are those which would see how the parties opposing and favouring the direct release of films on OTT platforms would come to an understanding, either way. Multiplexes and standalone cinema theatres too are desperately waiting for footfalls which don't seem too early to happen. The lockdown impact could however lessen somewhat as the target audience would get to see the latest episodes of their favourite shows.
