Will Madras High Court Decision Hit Vijay's Master Collections?

The Tamil Nadu government had allowed 100 percent seat occupancy in theatres across state for the exhibition of movies after Kollywood Thalapathy Vijay personally met the chief minister requesting permission. However, there was mixed reaction over the government's decision to allow theatres to function with full capacity.

Also, there was a petition filed in the Madras High court questioning this move by the Tamil Nadu government.

In reply to this petition, the Madras High court has passed orders to allow only fifty percent occupancy until January 11. The High court which perused this appeal stated, "Since we are fighting against a Pandemic disease we are not bothered about its consequences on financial matters."

This opinion from a bench of High court judges comprising M M Sundaresh, and S Ananthi has proved to be a temporary setback for Tamil Nadu government as well as Kollywood filmmakers who were hoping to make up for financial losses caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The Tamil Nadu government on January 5 had ordered cent per cent occupancy in theatres, but the court has directed to continue status quo until January 11.

However, Thalapathy Vijay fans have heaved a huge sigh of relief as the actor's upcoming movie Master will hit theatres only on January 13 as a Sankranthi release. So this order may not affect the collections of Vijay's Master. Or if there's another petition filed, the court may extend the curbs in the interest of public health and safety.
