Netizens Remember Silk Smitha's Role In Ravichandran's Halli Meshtru
Late actress Silk Smitha who worked with Sandalwood Crazy Star Ravichandran in the Kannada movie "Halli Meshtru" ended her life by suicide in the year 1996. But her contribution to the film industry can never be forgotten.
The actress would have turned sixty had she been alive by now and she would have celebrated her sixtieth birthday on December 2 with her family members. The actress is being remembered even today by the people of film industries of all languages including Kannada.
Yesterday being her birthday, snippets from her movies were being shared on social media. She was addressed as 'Silk' by her contemporary fans of those days. It became very difficult for her fans to digest the news of her suicide in the year 1996. Silk Smitha died in her apartment.
A postmortem report had stated that the actress was heavily drunk when she breathed her last. Silk Smitha, who was born in a Telugu family, entered the tinsel world as a supporting actress. After her movie "Vandi Chakram" she was called Silk Smitha as her name in the movie was silk. She has worked in about 450 movies including Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Hindi languages.
She worked in the film industry for about 16 years. She was appearing more in item songs and glamourous roles. She did not have many friends in the industry, it is often said. Silk Smitha was known for her straightforwardness, and short tempered attitude. She loved to learn English. People in the industry used to appreciate her for her punctuality in attending shooting sets and also to this day sing praises of her hard work. Her portrayal of the character in Ravichandran's Halli Meshtru is being talked about even today by the people of those days.
Silk Smitha had acted in several other Kannada movies like "Alimmayya' "Ganeshana Galate" "Lockup death" and " Chinna". A Bollywood movie titled "Dirty picture" was released in the year 2011 which was based on the real life story of this late actress. Vidya Balan had paid full justice to this character. The movie was released on the birth anniversary of the late actress Silk Smitha.
When Silk Smitha's brother raised some objections about this movie, the Producer Ekta Kapoor had announced that "Dirty picture" was not a Biopic of Silk Smitha. We find many such actresses in the movie land who have met with untimely deaths due to their wrong options, she had said.
