Tamil film directors hail DMK MLA Anbazhagan
DMK member J Anbazhagan had a rare record with his recent tenure as an MLA. His assembly constituency – Chepauk- Thiruvallikeni – was the one from where his party supremo and the one and only M Karunanidhi won three times in a row from 1996 till 2011.
Till his death on June 10, he too held it well winning it twice. His death due to coronavirus attack has shocked the party and also makes him among the first politicians to succumb to the disease in the country.
Anbazhagan, who died on his 62nd birthday, was actively involved with cinema industry. In one of his films, Telugu actor Sundeep Kishan was selected for one of his earliest roles in Tamil cinema. He collaborated with director Ameer for his film 'Aadhi Bhagavan', who was initially hesitant to work with a politician. His film, a mafia thriller was controversial when it was released but went on to become an above-average grosser.
