The 'Roja' director turns 64!
Actors and actresses have queued up to work with him over the years. With more than 37 years experience, directing 26 films in Kannada, Malayalam, Telugu, Hindi and Tamil, Mani Ratnam , whose birthday falls today, is one of the leading directors of Indian cinema. Currently, he is in the midst of recreating a Tamil literary classic- Ponniyin Selvan – in two parts for the world at large. With his wife Suhasini and son Nandan also in the same field, Mani Ratnam is actively pursuing the magnum opus dream presently.
In the last decade, when cinematic trends were changing and new names were adorning the marquee of showbiz, Ratnam's style of movie-making came under the glare of social media types who opined he was fading away. That was the time when his bi-lingual 'Raavan' and the later one 'Kadal' failed to impress the Gen Z audience. Yet his multi-lingual ' OK Kanmani' and subsequently the gangster flick ' Chekka Chivandha Vaanam', (dubbed as ' Nawab ' in Telugu) released in the last three years regained attention of his supporters.
