Theatres in Tamil Nadu to remain closed till year end?
The coronavirus cases in Tamil Nadu are showing no signs of abatement, with the capital city Chennai among the red zones of the country. The entertainment-starved Tamilians were served with an OTT film- Ponmagal Vandhal - but it has been cold-shouldered because of a tepid screenplay and preachy narrative at the climax.
Over the past two months, theatre owners, both stand alone types and the multiplexes are worried about the maintenance of their properties which would be subject to rodent menace, as a few of them expressed in the media. There were reports that healthy discounts in ticket rates also would be announced to go along with social distancing.
Now, the news circulating is that the government is not keen on allowing the theatres to be thrown open for the public before the year end. The authorities have already sought postponement of SSC examinations and filed an appeal before the High Court. A few pessimists feel it will even be the New Year, when new hopes about reviving the movie business would happen.
