Green signal for Nishabdham on OTT?

Under shooting for a year and generating considerable media hype, the Madhavan- Anushka Shetty starrer is a hot prospect in the southern film industry. Till the coronavirus-induced lockdown in March, this film was a much-awaited one by all the fans of Sweety and Madhavan. The Tamil media seems convinced that very soon the film will be out on the cyberspace platform, bypassing the standalone theatres and multiplexes as Anushka is reportedly okay with its release.

Drawing first blood, the OTT platform bosses had managed to snare seven films in various languages for an exclusive Net release which has raised a whole lot of din in the entertainment industry. Hindi and Tamil film worlds have protested strongly, the exhibitors have threatened the producers, yet the release schedule of the films have been announced, beginning May 29.

Telugu film industry was obviously reluctant and said it in so many words. Yet, the typical status of the industry, where a few control the whole state of affairs, has meant that the big guns can afford to have a wait-and-watch attitude while the smaller ones will continue to suffer, OTT or no OTT. A final word on this new route to reach out to the public is expected soon.
