Lion King First Weekend Box Office Report
The live animation version of 1994's cult classic, The Lion King was released all over the world yesterday. The new version is directed by Jon Favreau, who also made another recent live animated film, The Jungle Book. Considering the huge market of India, Disney released the film across many centres in the country.
It had a very good start at the box office as it collected about Rs. 11 crores nett in India. Surprisingly, the collections took a huge leap on Saturday as it earned Rs. 19.15 crores nett from the Rs. 22.80 gross. Thus, the film saw a growth of over 73 per cent. It is expected to do well on Sunday too.
Meanwhile, the strategy of Disney choosing big stars to dub in various regional languages helped the film to get decent earnings in those versions as well. Coming to the Telugu version, Nani, Jagapathi Babu, Ravi Shankar, Brahmanandam and Ali lent their choices for this film.
