New entrants with B-town dreams
With talented actress Keerthy Suresh all set to make her B-town debut opposite Ajay Devgn in a big-ticket film being helmed by Amit Sharma of 'Badhai Ho' fame, the 'Mahanati' joins the list of T-town divas who are testing their luck in Bollywood these days. "If Keerthy Suresh has a signed a good script than no worries, otherwise, it will be a herculean task for an actress who relies on her acting talent to make it big among a bevy of beauties," says director Santhosh Srinivas.
The thanda response to sexy siren Regina Cassandra in 'Ek Ladiki Ko Dekha Tho….,' dampened Regina's spirits.
"Kudos to Regina for essaying a bold role of a lesbian but Sonam Kapoor and Anil Kapoor hogged the limelight, leaving Regina high and dry even in promotions," adds Srinivas.
Already, popular T-town glam diva Rakul Preet Singh is giving a hard push to her B-town career but has received 'mixed' luck with duds like 'Aiyaarey' and keeping hopes on her next film 'De De Pyar De' to attain pan-India star image.
Tammanah couldn't stay long in B-town as her horror flick 'Devi(L)' with Prabhu Deva turned out to be a damp squib.
"There is nothing wrong in established Telugu actresses trying their luck in Hindi movies to expand their horizons, but they should pick appropriate roles, rather than just doing films for the sake of it.
The B-town dreams of Tamannaah, Kajal and Rakul Preet Singh came crashing down after duds," adds leading producer Bandla Ganesh, who cites the example of Aasin and Ileana, who were top-notch actresses in Telugu but lost in the crowd of B-town A-listers.
"Although, Aasin started with a bang with 'Ghazini', but later she had to do some small-time films. Similarly, Ileana, who worked with superstars in Telugu had to be content doing films with lesser-known Hindi actors.
Hence, south actresses gaining a foothold in B-town is easier said than done," adds Ganesh. Other south divas who had a bad run in B-town include Hansika, Shraddha Das, Shruti Haasan who couldn't go beyond a point to give top-league actresses like Deepika, Anushka and Alia Bhat. a run for their money. "Only a miracle could make south diva a superstar in B-town. Yesteryear diva Sridevi was an exception," says director Meher Ramesh.
