After superhit film 'Sarkar,' the producers of 'Bigil' starring Tamil superstar Vijay, who is playing dual roles in the much-hyped film, are demanding Rs 9 crore for Telugu dubbing rights.

"Vijay's market is soaring in the two Telugu states these days," says distributor Balusu Rama Rao, who claims that both his recent dubbed movies 'Adhirindi' and 'Sarkar' managed to rake in moolah.

"Vijay's movies are loaded with action and well-mounted songs and connects well with the masses. He is slowly expanding his market in Telugu since 'Sarkar' touched the Rs 5 crore mark. Giving confidence to producers of his new film to demand more for Telugu rights," he adds.

Actually, Rajnikanth's last film 'Petta' was sold for Rs 11 crore but it couldn't manage to break-even as it turned out to be flop in Telugu states. "Betting money on the name of stars is always a risky proposition, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't," adds Ramakrishna.

Directed by Atlee, 'Bigil' marks the third collaboration of the director with Vijay after 'Theri' and 'Mersal,' both of which were blockbusters. Nayanthara plays an important role in this film. For the role of a football coach of a women's team, Vijay underwent special training to get under the skin of the character.

The poster, which is set against North Madras backdrop, featured Vijay in dual roles as father and son. From the poster, it's evident that father Vijay plays a local rowdy while the son essays the role of a football coach.

"No doubt, Vijay has surpassed his rivals Surya, Vishal and Karthi in popularity among Telugu movie buffs." concludes Rama Rao.
