Just bag it!

If you ever thought about upgrading to an elegant belt bag, or gravitating towards an XXL tote or even if you considered keeping hold of that slick black handbag that serves you well, with summer around the corner, we're looking at the hottest summer fashion trends to dictate our new season wardrobe, and that includes which handbags to invest in. I can almost guarantee that within these bag trends for 2019, there will be something that suits your personal style down to the ground.

XXL Totes

Printed totes are back, and not a moment too soon considering it's essential to have one for the extra stuff you can't lug around in our micro bag, which makes XXL totes another huge trend for spring/summer. I loved the neon touches at Rejina Pyo and the gorgeous prints at Self-Portrait and Alexa Chung.

Crochet

Last season was all about the basket bag, this year we are embracing another natural trend: the crochet bag. Think a softer, more wearable version of the basket trend, in neutral tones of beige, sand and brown. Perfect for tonal dressing, as seen at Jacquemus, Isabel Marant and Chanel.

Shellbags

Shells were all over our jewellery last summer, and it was only a matter of time before they made it onto our handbags. Stella McCartney, Chanel, Michael Kors, and Rixo all gave us major wanderlust with their designs.

Snap clasp

The kind of handbags fit for the Queen of Meereen, aka the ladylike bag. They are basically an oversized old-fashion coin purse with a classy snap fastening at the top, and perhaps a nice tortoiseshell chain strap. Look to Coach and Simone Rocha for inspiration.

Belt bags

Much chicer version of fanny bags. The desire for handbags that offer function and convenience and the belt-bag does ultimate justice. The hand's free trend has grown over the past few years and it is establishing itself as a wardrobe staple. Belt bags, backpacks, and multi-pocketed silhouettes are trending, utility bags offer comfort and style. Try the look by teaming it with a minimalist fanny over a sleek suit or lean into the sporty aesthetic with nylon fabrics in retro colours.

Geometric shapes

Shapeshifters are emerging as the newest bag trend. From circles to trapezes, this style is a whimsical take on the tailored bag. Their exaggerated, novelty shapes in structured shapes create lust-worthy art pieces.

Decorative ring handle bags

The ring handle bag has been around for a little while, with all manner of summer straw bags now coming with a wooden circular appendage.
