Yoga and the journey to self-realisation: Connecting with your higher self

The journey of yoga is considered to be a very dynamic process and experience. And as we know every journey starts of somewhere and has a destination at the end of it. Similarly yoga too has a beginning and this is called self discovery. The destination for those who travel along the path of yoga leads to self realisation. Between this beginning of self-discovery and the end goal of self-actualisation comes all the teachings of yoga which include yoga asanas, pranayama, meditation techniques, mudras, and philosophy etc.

All our life actions and karma come into play during this journey of yoga and that is one important lesson that we must keep in mind. The lesson or the teaching before we start this process is that we must never give up or accept defeat. No matter what circumstances, challenges and obstacles you meet on the way you must continue to strive towards your purpose. Another crucial aspect in life whether it is your yogic practices or otherwise is that what has began must be finished. Regardless of what task or action you take up you must see it through to the very end. For example if you started your meal and halfway through eating you hear about something that makes you very sad and you leave your plate unfinished, this means that all the nutrition that you are about to gain has been lost and as a result your health suffers.

And on this journey of spirituality you will definitely encounter many ups and downs and experience some struggles that might seem daunting. Always remember to pursue your goal fearlessly and relentlessly because who knows when you might get a chance or the opportunity again.

Practice compassion for all

Your actions and how you connect with other people are both clear indicators of your spiritual progress and your efforts to better yourself. It is crucial that we treat everyone with love and compassion since everyone struggles with some personal issues or challenging circumstances. This is why we employ spiritual disciplines to mould and cultivate a loving and optimistic outlook on life.

Good food for body

Make sure the proportions of vitamins, minerals, proteins, and carbs in your diet are appropriate. Include just seasonal fruits and vegetables. Despite the temptation, avoid meals that are extremely spicy or fried with oil. Consume foods that will improve your physical and mental health.

Be disciplined

The body will be healthy and support you in your efforts when the mind is concentrated and obstinately working towards a goal. It is quite easy to give in to unpleasant sensations, attitudes, behaviours, and actions when one lacks a strong sense of direction. If you have a passion or a goal you’d like to achieve, you’ll feel like your life has more meaning. You can be sure that you won’t be negatively diverted from your job if you keep this aim in mind.

Talk to yourself

To begin, practise self-introspection or self-examination. Consider your intentions—or lack thereof—and the motivations that led to them. Do you go through your days quickly without stopping to reflect or assess yourself? If so, pause for a second and consider if you are living intentionally. Throwing out the garbage is another mental activity.
