A wave for change

The Austrian-based MAMAG Modern Art Museum combines living with style and art with the exhibition "International Contemporary Art Austria Biennale". Curator Heinz Playner has made a selection for the exhibition of several artists worldwide and he presents the artworks at the largest fair for living, design, interior design and art "Living & Interieur".

Delhi-based Anita Tiwary is a visual artist and a spiritual painter, who is the only Indian to represent her artwork at the International Contemporary Art Austria Biennial at Booth B 0833. Over 18 artists throughout the world are representing their works and the fair started on March 9 and will be on until March 17.

Anita's journey of creativity started due to her father, who spotted her drawings when she was in 3rd standard. Anita says, "My father encouraged my decision of taking admission for Degree in Fine Arts in Painting from Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University in 1980 and MA in Art Criticism from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in 1983.

My journey started with within by knowing my self. My search for the known, unknown and beyond for an eternity reflects in my 'Soulscapes', abstract representation and dream narratives."About her work title 'Plastic Dreams', she says, "The plastic pollution has reached every corner of our oceans and in our dreams. More than eight million tonnes of plastic ends up in our oceans every year."

"From the whale, sea lions, and birds to the microscopic organisms called zooplankton, plastic has been, and is, greatly affecting marine life, i.e animals onshore and off shore, whether by ingestion, deformity or entanglement, which can be seen in my painting," she shares.

Even we dreamof a world without single-use plastic, Anita says, "We are living in a world plagued by a plastic nightmare but we're dreaming of a world without single-use plastic. I use unusual forms and colours, texture and techniques to create my own style and make them experience relationship with nature and to be truly in the moment as they encounter the transitory qualities of visual vocabulary of natural phenomena andtransformation."

About her art inspirations, she says, "Tyeb Mehta, Syed Sadequain Ahmed Naqvi, Ebrahim Alkazi, Tony Cragg, Francis Bacon, Neo Rauch, Frank Philip Stella, etc, inspired me a lot."A mix of styles by Hundertwasser with impressionistic strokes and own visions can be seen in the art of Anita Tiwary.

She says, "I want to make people aware that what the ocean consumes, we consume. We're all one, living planet; all part of the same swimming organism. We need a wave of change to save our future. It's time to further evolve the protection of the ocean. Our lives, health and well-being depends on the health of the environment."

Anita shares, "Visitors can see the art of emerging as well as established artists from all over the world in changing special exhibitions. Exhibitions include photographic art, modern paintings, prints, lithographs, sculptures, mixed media of contemporary art and pop art."
