Budding talents get national platform

It was a big day for young designers in Hyderabad. Design Festival Season 2 featuring curated knowledge series with a talk show followed by design presentation by budding INIFD fashion designers and interior designers for direct entry to showcase and present their talent at Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 was held in Hyderabad. 46 Design Students from the city participated in the four-city event.

Fashion designer Anushree Reddy, interior designer Aamir Sharma, editor of 'The Voice of Fashion' Shefalee Vasudev (moderator) and vice president and head of fashion –IMG Reliance Jaspreet Chandok and Corporate director of INIFD International Institute of Fashion Design Ritu Kochhar spoke during a panel discussion.

Anushree spoke about her entry into the fashion world, and her philosophy behind using Kanjeevaram saree. Aamir gave away insights into the trends in interior designing.

Giving the highlights of the event, Ritu Kochhar shares in a one-on-one interaction, "We have a tie-up with IMG Reliance. We have 15,000 students across India, who apply for the Gen-next category and it is basically open for everybody.

We wanted a special platform for INIFD students where the jury and the panel comes from IMG. Students from ten centers came here today.

They showcase their work and select one fashion designer and interior designer and these selected students will showcase their work at Lakme Fashion Week for the coming season."

Gearing up with opportunities that was present at the event the students looked excited and participated in the fashion show with enthusiasm.

"The whole concept of the event is to make these students reach to a national and international platform instantly," she adds.

Having about 100 institutes across India, she stresses on the importance of an academic qualification in fashion, she says, "Equipped with a these students have an additional advantage because you need to do the all design related work with the help of the workers; knowledge of cuts and fabrics makes it easy for them to work with their team."

Making fashion industry a sustainable one is the focus of many fashion brands of the day; so, it is the case with INIFD.

She says, "It might not be there in a written module but, during general conversations and through panels like this, students gain awareness."

Commenting about how fashion would change in the coming years she states, "In the next five years it is always going to be about buying more and more as fashion gets cheaper."
