Exploring fashion
The 10th edition of the Copenhagen fashion summit, organised annually by the Global Fashion Agenda is one of the biggest events that focus on sustainability in the fashion industry.
The first day of the summit saw Anita Dongre, founder and Chief Creative Officer of The House of Anita Dongre, as one of the key speakers
The only Indian designer to participate, Anita was a part of a panel discussion that explored 'Taking the pulse of the Fashion Industry.'
The discussion touched base on the current progress of the industry and aimed at providing guidance for definitive action.
Sustainability being a cause that is passionate to her, Anita calls for re-evaluating the definition of success to include the social and the environmental impact of fashion brands.
"I believe that companies are very much focused on profit and growth, but we also need audit agencies to measure the sustainability efforts."
During the course of the discussion, Anita also stressed the importance of rural development and empowering women in the sector, saying, "At House of Anita Dongre we're really passionate about women's empowerment.
We want to take the employment back to the villages of India and help women achieve financial independence."
Being a fashion designer herself, Anita's vision of affecting systematic change stems from the very first design. - "We're focusing on educating our designers.
Design is a very important driver of sustainability."
