Making Sustainable fashion Eco-friendly
Sonal Agrawal, a 34-year-old, Mumbai-based fashion blogger aims to create the perfect wardrobe with her essential styling tips.
Sonal completed her masters in luxury branding management from Italy. She was a brand consultant for 9 years before she started her career as blogging. It was in 2015, she started writing her blogs and at the same time started sharing them on her Instagram page 'PinkPeppercorn_sonal'. Soon she realized that her followers started increasing and that is when she realized that she enjoyed doing this and slowly made this as her full-time job.
Sonal says that fashion is something she was always interested in. She says, "Blogging was not my starting point in fashion. In my first job, I used to handle shoppers stop as my main client. Fashion was always a part of me. My mom was very much into fashion. I always knew I had to do something in fashion."
When she started blogging, Competition was difficult and that was also the time when Instagram started changing its algorithm and made it commercially focused. She was better in marketing to gain more momentum.
One of the challenges for her was that she was not an extrovert and in this field, it becomes the most important as one has to interact with many people. In terms of content creation, she never faced any challenge as she had her own ideas and interacted with some amazing photographers whom she met only after starting blogs. She was able to get live concepts but not being able to sell them was one of the biggest challenges but now she has overcome this challenge being in this field for a long time.
"During the pandemic, we see a lot of recycled fashion videos which is all about mixing and matching and creating new fashion with existing resources. Everything that I do I focus on promoting sustainability in whatever way possible. This makes my content different. I think more than others liking it, I need to like the content. When I create content I don't think about others. I end up making concept that I like," she adds.
Sustainability itself is very relevant and a real problem at the moment. She has been focusing on eco-friendly fashion and using earth-friendly material using hand made which also provides employment.
During the pandemic, people have physically seen the change in consumption. They've realized that they need to reduce consumerism and mindless consumption. The topic that she chooses is relevant and essential in today's generation. People think sustainable fashion is way too expensive and hi-fi things. With the help of her video series, I try to make it a doable. People can make 10 different outfits from their own closet. So that they don't have to buy it.
At present, she is working on her video series. She is also working on promoting local designers and local artists. She is not charging anything from them. These local artists and designers make wonderful designs in their backyard which needs to get promoted. I am doing an entire series promoting them, be it jewellery or clothing. I am also working on my YouTube channel where I will be putting up this and haircare routines.
The new bloggers needs to stay original and create original content. More than pleasing people they need to be satisfied with their own content. Using the right hashtags is very important to get visibility. Copying contents and captions should not be used.
