Telangana: CBSE GK books asks students about film actors and cartoons

Telangana: Questions on film actor names and cartoons in CBSE General Knowledge books has triggered controversy after the picture of the questions in GK textbook gone viral.

In a chapter titles screen names, the questioned asked were the screen names of actor Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Dilip Kumar, Rajinikanth, Rekha, Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Tiger shroff and several other actors. Upon learning their children's syllabus, the parents fumed at the management for using such content in the books.

Alerted over the issue that the textbook is being used in a school affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Telangana education department directed the officials concerned to refer the issue to CBSE for further action.

In a statement, the school education department said that the schools affiliated to CBSE follow the curriculum and textbooks prescribed by the CBSE and the state government has no connection with the syllabus. However, the state school education department looked into the issue after a complaint lodged by the social activist Vijay Gopal.
