Political system more to blame

Update: 2019-04-29 22:09 IST

One can understand the agony and anguish of the author Dr Bharat Jhunjhunwala over the apathetic and appalling governance of both NDA and UPA where there was no sincerity and focus on long term interests of the Nation and where there was only one aim among politicians to just win the elections by promising countless freebies which would cripple the economy in a devastating manner. (Ideological bankruptcy of NDA and UPA- THI, April 29).

But his prescription of freezing the pensions and salaries of government employees until the average income of Indians is equal to that of government employees/ pensioners is not only unjustified but also ridiculous.

Why should the public servants be punished for the poverty of people for which the incompetence, corruption, lack of vision, dishonesty and insincerity of ruling political class are responsible?

The per capita income of India and China were by and large same 35 years ago.

But, China has now pushed India in to a shameful position by raising its per capita income to more than 4 times of India without punishing its public servants.

Obviously, it is the sins of ruling class which are responsible for the plight of impoverished people who are constantly being denied opportunities to improve their economic status by being made to stand as beggars with a begging bowl before politicians for freebies.

If capable, sincere and honest leaders had been voted to power all these decades, this problem would have been effectively solved long ago without flogging the pensioners and public servants.

It is incorrect to impoverish pensioners and public servants under the pretext of pulling out common man from impoverishment.

A dangerous theory shouldn't be propounded here that salary given to government employee is responsible for the poverty of common man.
