BR Ambedkar Open University remembers PV's services
Hyderabad: BRAOU organised P V Narasimha Rao Memorial Lecture at its campus as part of 98th birthday celebrations of Former Prime Minister of India P V Narasimha Rao on Thursday.
Dr Vinay Sitapati, political scientist, journalist, lawyer from Ashoka University, New Delhi and the author of "Half Lion" was the chief guest delivered a lecture on "P V Narasimha Rao and Congress Party". He declared: 'Today Congress Party needs a statesman like P V Narasimha Rao. The conditions prevailed during P V Narasimha Rao are same in the Congress Party now. The party needs a strong non-Gandhi and non-Nehru family leadership. Now the Congress Party is led by old generation it is like old technology in new machine which is not sufficient in present scenario. To prevent NDA-led BJP party is only possible with Congress Party and no other party in India. The third biggest Party got no more than 6 per cent of voting share in 2019 elections similarly, while BJP got 38 per cent and Congress 20 per cent approximately'.
Taking a historical direction, the speaker added: 'Narasimha Rao sat in opposition for three years until the Congress won again in 1980 and this marked the beginning of Narasimha Rao's rise to the top of the Indian political system. Rao was one of the most complex personalities produced by India. In many ways, he embodied the land and character of India - complex, intelligent, argumentative, spiritual, ritualistic, prodigious, social, non-materialistic, haunted by the past, plagued by insecurity, unsure of one's place in the world and driven by events beyond one's control'. Sitapati concluded "Lion, Fox, Mouse" the three modes of behaviour that P V Narasimha Rao uses to deal with the outside world are brought out superbly. Prof K Seetharama Rao, Vice-Chancellor, Dr. BRAOU presided over the function and greeted the staff on the occasion. Prof A Sudhakar, Director (Academic), introduced the speaker. The programme was attended by the Directors, Deans, Heads of Branches Teaching and Non-Teaching Staff Members. In this memorial lecture Telangana Chief Minister (OSD) Deshapathi Srinivas, P V Narasimha Rao's son P V Prabhakara Rao also participated.
