Hyderabad: Prof E Vayunandan, Vice-Chancellor, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU), was invited as the chief guest to deliver the Foundation Day Lecture. On this occasion, he spoke on "Skill Enhancement Through ODL System". He said distance education is an institutionalised form of education, which is different only in the mode of teaching. The system provides a second chance for higher learning. It provides for an opportunity to all those who were deprived of higher educational needs due to constraints of time, space and finances. He stressed that sustainable learning is possible through distance education in order to achieve the targeted millstones of any body's life. The system provides a space through its flexibility.

When given a chance, people tend to move towards general education rather than to a specialised education because of its technical nature. Though Open and Distance Learning (ODL) has emerged as the most viable option in vocational education over the years, the various problems hindering the development of system are many, mainly from regulatory bodies. The ODL system emerged as a source contributing to social and economic development, not only in the developed countries but also in the developed countries especially to meet the needs of training. It is becoming an accepted and indispensable part of the mainstream educational system all over the world with a special focus on skill education, using ICTs.

Prof. A. Sudhakar, Director (Academic), Dr. BRAOU presided over the function and greeted the staff on the occasion. Dr G Laxma Reddy In-Charge Registrar Dr. BRAOU welcomed the gathering and introduced the programme and the speaker. The Directors, Deans, teaching and non-teaching staff members attended the function.
