Foundation Day celebrated at University of Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Centre for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS), School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH) celebrated its first Foundation Day on Thursday. Prof. K.S. Krishna, Head, CEOAS welcomed respected dignities (Padmashri Prof. J. N. Goswami; Hon'ble Pro Vice-Chancellor-2, Prof. B. Raja Shekhar; Dean, School of Physics, Prof. V. Seshu Bai), scientists from other institutes like NRSC, NGRI, UoH faculty, staff and students. He detailed the Centre activities, achievements and uniqueness of the courses offered to the students. On this occasion, CEOAS has given Best Paper Award in recognition of a best output of Research Scholars in preceding year. This has been initiated to encourage and motivate the students to carry a cutting-edge science in their irrespective field.

Prof. V. Seshu Bai, Dean, School of Physics briefed about the School's teaching and research activities.

Prof. B. Raja Shekhar, Hon'ble Pro Vice-Chancellor-2, gave presidential remarks and emphasized that Centre has the potential to earn external cash flow by providing technical knowledge to the industries, thus, he urged the Centre to widen the scope of its activities. He also appreciated Centre's achievements since its beginning and highlighted the importance of such interdisciplinary activities in UoH. Prof. J. N. Goswami delivered a Foundation Day lecture on topic "Origin of our solar system and other solar systems". He explained many different theories, as early as 230 BC, changing ideas on the origin of our solar system.
