GITAM academic council approves 11 courses, new B Tech programme

Visakhapatnam: After attaining Autonomous Status from Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), GITAM Deemed to be University made a significant exercise to revamp its UG, PG programmes with a concept of to offer more industry oriented and society significant programmes.

The University's 16th Academic Council Meeting which was held on Thursday under the chairman ship of In-Charge Vice-Chancellor Prof K Sivaramakrishna approved 11 new certificate programmes and new B Tech and LLM programmes to be implemented from 2019-20 academic year.

While addressing the council member Prof K Sivaramakrishna said, that quality education is the only way to progress and the university is giving priority to carry out reforms as per the needs of the industry. He mentioned that the university is focussing on world rankings with teaching and high impact research activities.

New certificate courses

The University Academic Council has approved new Certificate Courses in Behavioural Economics, Human Performance Enhancement and life Skills, Big Data, Blockchain Technology, Deep Learning, Drug Regulatory Affairs, Industrial Safety, Tribal Laws, Forensic Law, Legal Regulations of Economic Enterprises/Capital & Financial Markets, International Comparative Environmental Law, Advanced Legal Drafting to start from 2019-20 academic year.

New B Tech and LL M programmes

The University Academic Council has approved new B Tech programme "Computer Science and Business Systems" in collaboration with major IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) effective from 2019-20 admitted batch. The University In-Charge Vice-Chancellor informed that offering industry designed programme is first of its kind in Andhra Pradesh. The Academic Council has also approved the new PG programmes LL.M in IPR & Cyber Law, LL M in Corporate Law effective from 2019-20 academic year.

Along with these new initiatives the university academic council has approved minor modifications in III year MBBS programme offered by GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) medical college.

GITAM Registrar Prof KVGD Balaji, GITAM Hyderabad Campus Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof N Sivaprasad, Bengaluru Campus Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Sivapullaiah and academic council members participated in the discussions.
