IIT-M collaborates with Hyd college for tech enhanced learning courses
Hyderabad: Pallavi Engineering College in collaboration with IIT Madras inaugurated the local chapter of SWAYAM-National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) on Wednesday at its premises by Malka Komariah, Dr. Satyanarayana & Dr. Naga Jyothi.
To take this initiative forward and to encourage more students across colleges to participate in this initiative, this chapter in Pallavi Engineering College has been set up which will be under the headship of a faculty member of the college Dr. Naga Jyothi, who would be the Single Point of Contact (SPOC). She will identify suitable mentors for various courses, who can ensure that students are active in a course, are submitting their assignments on time and also clarify the doubts they may have.
NPTEL has been offering self-study courses across engineering, humanities and science streams for more than a decade. These are available at: http://nptel.ac.in NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate form the IITs! These are available at: https://swayam.gov.in It is now possible for anyone outside the IIT System to be able to do an online certification course from NPTEL and get a certificate from the IITs. IITs are reaching out and taking education to the homes of people through this initiative.
This chapter will provide a platform both for the faculty and students to take up online certification in advanced technology courses developed by IITs and IISc. For the faculty these certifications are helpful to update themselves with latest technologies and for students, the courses may be taken for credits in electives and play vital role in placements.
Swayam is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy.
