Loving nature through literature

Hyderabad: Dr Samuel Johnson's Literary Club, Dept. of English, St. Pious X Degree and PG College for Women, Nacharam, Hyderabad celebrated Literary Day on Wednesday with the theme "Lit-Nature – Love Nature through Literature".

Monoshri Mitra, HOD, English, highlighted the club's endeavours in promoting literary and aesthetic skills among the students.

The students of BA Modern Language took the lead role in the event.

They made installations, posters, models, sketches and paintings following poets of nature and also great scientists.

The Principal, Rev Sr B Velangini Kumari and the Campus Coordinator, Dr Annie Sunil graced the occasion.

Dr Jhilam Chattaraj– a poet, author, and educator, recited from her poetry collection and emphasized on how creative writing makes us rich in our lives.

In the Art exhibition, Artist Abhisekh Vijay discussed how his paintings reflect life.

Jyothi Reddy, CEO and self-made personality greatly inspired the students with her life.

A book and art exhibition, film show, flash mob, literary and fine arts competitions were organised and the winners were awarded with certificates and prizes.

The flash mob rocked with 'Heal the world' as students quoted "Let nature be your teacher" by Wordsworth.

The Book exhibition 'Bibliophile' was also inked with a 'dendrophilic' verve and displayed about 2500 books by contemporary writers.

It attracted buyers, both staff and students, with a prized 20 per cent discount and extolled the print medium in today's electronic world.

A few future writers also displayed their books for sale.

The messages "The poetry of earth is never dead" by Keats; "The earth has music for those who listen" by Shakespeare; "Going to the mountains is going home" by John Muir; "Look deep into nature, and you will understand everything better" by Einstein; "Nature is pleased with simplicity and nature is no dummy" by Newton; "We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals" by Kantim parted Love for Nature among the students on the Literary Day.
