Visakhapatnam: National Orthopaedic Learning Centre in GITAM soon

Visakhapatnam: GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (GIMSR) is planning to start a National Orthopaedic Learning Centre, informed GIMSR Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr.CR Rao here on Monday at GITAM Deemed to be University campus. While inaugurating the "Continuing Medical Education program on Total Knee Arthroplasty", Dr. Rao observed that most of the surgeons in the country travelling abroad to learn the latest skills with huge expenditure. He said that to avoid too much dependency on other country for training purposes GITAM Hospital decided to establish a national level training centre with the help of NRIs. He appreciated the GITAM orthopaedic department for their service attitude towards major surgeries.

GIMSR Orthopaedic department Head Dr. G. Rajasekhara Rao briefed that the aim of the department is to offer world class treatment to local people. He said that the department is doing continuous surgeries. We are doing knee surgeries with Rs.75,000 whereas in US and other countries the cost is Rs.24 lakhs, he added. He informed that the knee surgeries success rate is very high in GIMSR hospital.

Orthopaedic Surgeons Society of Andhra Pradesh (OSSAP) President Dr. P. Satish Kumar said that every month around one thousand knee surgeries are registering in the state of Andhra Pradesh. He informed that over the last one decade even in Visakhapatnam the hospitals and doctors enhanced their skills to successful the knee surgeries. He appreciated GITAM Hospital for doing service through knee surgeries.

American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Task Force Member, Nordic Orthopaedic Federation (NOF) President Dr.Aare Martson participated as resource person and conducted live knee surgeries.
