Prerna held at RBVRR Women's College

Hyderabad: The Quills Literary Club, Department of English, RBVRR Women's College in collaboration with The Good Talk Factory, Hyderabad organised "Prerna", a two hour session of open-mike, story-telling, inspirational talks, stand-up comedy, poetry reading, and dance drama by the students of the college. The aim of the event was to encourage young girls to overcome their fear of speaking at large gatherings and share their personal stories on an open platform. The event motivated the students to refine their communication skills and self-management skills.

TGTF Founder, Raghu Duth Devala and Co-Founder Rashika are on a mission to create a platform for expression for the youth without being judged. The event marked the first chapter of their collaboration with colleges of the city.

Indu Gopalakrishnan, member, TGTF and also a Book with Human Library delivered the keynote address. She spoke about her journey from being an insecure young girl with many emotional upheavals to a confident public speaker. Students of the club, Vaishnavi, Hiranmayee, Bhavna, , Syeda, Shakera, Tasleen, Hafeeza shared their personal experiences on contemporary issues like sexual abuse, discrimination based on religion, poverty, stage fear, through interesting talks titled as, "Freedom from Fear," "Beyond the Hijab" and "Poor but Happy." Students Abiroopa, Mehek, Maria and Chanchal and group, also read their poems, performed sketches and dances that highlighted problems of depression, teenage angst, lack of confidence and suicidal tendencies in young girls and boys. Bushra performed a spoken word poem on the social responses to the LGBTQ community. One of the highlights of the program was the narrative performance by poet Alick Bailey. He kept the audience hooked to his story and left them in splits with laughter. The performers and members of TGTF were felicitated. The team also trained the members of club to organise the event on their own, a few months later. It was a joyful and inspirational gathering of students, faculty members and artists.
