Roundtable hosted on Climate Change
Hyderabad: British Deputy High Commission Hyderabad hosted a roundtable for 30 college students on the theme of 'Climate Change' at St Joseph's Degree & PG College. This programme is a part of a series of events planned for this year in the two Telugu states, ahead of the COP26 Summit to be held in Glasgow, UK in November 2020.
Chevening Alumni - Thilotham Reddy Kolanu, Energy Consultant and Padmaja Karanam, Agri-Environmental Expert and Dr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner, Telangana & AP, led the program titled 'Chevening Conversations'. They judged the performance of the teams and adjudged the best team.
The students who participated in the roundtable focused on three broad focus areas - Energy, Ground water depletion and Transportation, their impacts on climate change and proposed counter actions. Dr Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to Andhra Pradesh and Telangana was the Chief Guest at the concluding ceremony.
The winning team from St Ann's College for Women received awards and certificates. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Fleming said, "I'm delighted this event brought together our vibrant Chevening alumni to engage with young people on an issue that is truly the need of the hour - Climate Change. Leading up to the critical COP26 summit in the UK we will host events across both Telugu states on the theme of Climate Change bringing together a diverse mix of stakeholders."
This event provided a platform for next generation to engage and lead on Climate Change issues as well as connect with our Chevening alumni and experts on this theme in Hyderabad.
