This IIT-M girl aims to reach rare heights
Hyderabad: City-based J Nandini, a 22-year-old student of IIT-Madras bagged the Prestigious Erasmus Mundus scholarship by the European Commission to further her passion for development economics and public health.This is the second international academic scholarship that has been awarded to her, the first one being by the government of France. She also holds a 9 + GPA in IIT-Madras.
Nandini did her schooling from St. Ann's High School, Secunderabad and Hyderabad Public School Begumpet. She recently completed an integrated master's course in developmental studies from IIT-Madras. She is also a Bharatanatyam dancer. She has given over 100 performances across India in the last five years. She has been recently recognised by UNESCO as a Bharatanatyam dancer.
Nandini was chosen as India's youth representative to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in 2016. She was also a UN Rio +23 World Humanitarian Summit Campus ambassador and the only woman Department Legislator at IIT Madras in her year, which led her to receive special commendations from the Dean of IIT Madras.
In an interaction with The Hans India Nandini explained about her goal: "In the medium term, I hope to get a PhD in Health Economics and also choreograph my first thematic solo ballet. My goal is to become an expert in the field of public health and policy. In terms of classical arts, I hope to improve access to Bharatanatyam and become worthy of performing some day at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Her aims to build a future where women can realise their potential.
