11 medical students of KIMS suspended over derogatory reels on nurses

Hubli: The Karnataka institute of medical sciences (KIMS) management has suspended 11 medical students for allegedly making reels for a song from a Kannada film about nurses and shared it on social media.

In this background the nurses association president Sunitha Nayka, had filed a complaint against medical students with KIMS dean Dr Ramalingappa Antarathani on Monday. It was alleged that the MBBS students targetted nurses and made reels without obtaining any permission. Karnataka State Nurses Association and Dharwad District Nurses Association also expressed deep concern. Speaking on this issue, Nurses Association President Sunita Nayka said that the video was made in a rude and disrespectful manner to nurses. The nurses were insulted by this and the video went viral all over the state. She demanded that the students who insulted him should be severely punished.

KIMS principal Dr. Eshwara Hosmani, told that a committee of 6 members has been formed in this regard. Students who have already made reels apologized that they were wrong. However, what the students have done is reprehensible, so 11 medical students have suspended for one week.

There has been an incident where the photos of private degree college students in the city were distorted and derogatory posts were posted on social media. A protest was held on behalf of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, condemning this and demanding severe punishment for the accused. Posting derogatory posts to female students in the college is condemnable and the State Government should take action against the culprits. The state government should investigate this. The police department should be vigilant about social media. .The activists demanded that strict action should be taken by the police in connection with such incidents.
