Lockdown In Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has called for an all-party meeting on Friday, over the COVID-19 crisis in Bengaluru. The state capital has seen a sharp spike in COVID-19 cases in recent days.

The all-party meeting is likely to focus on the way forward in tackling the COVID-19 challenge and discuss containment strategies. The question of re-imposition of a second lockdown in the city is also likely to feature at the meeting, media reports said.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had, on Thursday, hinted at imposing another lockdown in Bengaluru and warned residents of the city to follow COVID-19 control steps announced by the government. Yediyurappa sternly advised people of the city to cooperate and maintain social distancing if they did not want Bengaluru to be shut down again.

Revenue Minister, R. Ashoka, however, ruled out the re-imposition of lockdown, adding that specific containment zones with cluster outbreaks will be sealed, media reports said. Ashoka also remarked that people had different views on the issue of checking coronavirus spread through lockdown, in response to the demand by opposition parties for a shutdown. The government would hold elaborate discussions with health experts and other stake-holders, he remarked.

Bengaluru has been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases in recent days prompting the Karnataka government to review the pandemic situation and decide on a way forward at the all-party meeting called by Chief Minister Yediyurappa on Friday.
