Farmers up in arms against land reforms Act
Bengaluru: A day after Karnataka Land Reforms (Amendment) Act 2020 was passed in the Legislative Council with the support of JD(S), farmer groups in the State held protests.
Beating sticks on the ground as a mark of protest against the Act, the farmers marched from Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station towards Vidhana Soudha.
Freedom fighter HS Doreswamy joined the protesting farmers and burnt the copy of the Bill. The Act allows industrialists to buy agricultural land directly from farmers. The farmers called for a 'chalo' Raj Bhavan on Thursday.
Aikya Horata leaders flayed the ruling BJP and opposition Janata Dal (S) for 'betraying' the trust of the farming community by passing amendments to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act. Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has appealed to farmers to remain calm.
