Mangaluru: Man poses as senior postal officer, seeks alliance with Goa girl, arrested

Mangaluru: Cyber police attached to Mangaluru division on Thursday arrested a man for seeking matrimonial alliance with a Goa girl making false claim on a social media that he was a senior postal officer.

The accused identified as Parameshwarappa, a resident of Chitradurga, allegedly posed as a postal officer and sought alliance with the daughter of one Hanumappa Giriappa Bisalli, of Goa.

"A complaint was lodged with the cyber crime police station, Mangaluru, by Harsha N, senior superintendent, department of posts, stating that Parameshwarappa was claiming on a social media that he was a senior postal officer posted at Mangaluru. It is learnt that the accused edited TV clippings using an app and portrayed himself as the winner of Karnataka Rajyotsava Award and Meghadoot Award as part of a conspiracy to create a good impression about himself" said the police statement.

However, after a request from Parameshwarappa, Hanumappa Giriappa Bisalli enquired about his credentials with postal authorities of Mangaluru and found that there was no such person. As police team led Vikash Kumar Vikash, Commissioner Of Police, Mangaluru, started investigation, it was learnt that a cheating case was registered against Parameshwarappa, who was also involved in collecting Rs 6 lakh from unemployed youths by promising Grade I and Grade II posts in the postal department through a fictitious Facebook account in the name of "Pooja CN, senior officer in the postal department".

"Following the leads given by B.C.Girish, police inspector, our team managed to arrest Parmeshwarappa from KSRTC bus stand. The accused was produced before the JMFC court and is now in police custody pending test results for Covid 19 as per the established protocol," a police statement said.

During interrogation, the accused said he created 20 false Facebook accounts under different names. He is learnt to have cheated 13 persons to the tune of Rs 15-20 lakh till now by promising them good jobs. Police seized a laptop, 5 mobile phones, duplicate IDs of postal department, ICICI Bank debit card from the accused.
